- Throughout history, the birthplace of Changhua scholars and
literati has commonly been called “Huangxi” (literally, “sulfur
river”). The name comes from the Qing government who
once believed the rivers in central Taiwan to be high in sulfur
content. For this reason both the Dajia River and Zhuoshui
