- Changhua’s Mother River, the Zhuoshui River, starts in the
southern foothills of Hehuanshan. The waters are formed
from the joining of various tributaries, including the Taluowan,
Wanda, Kashe, Danda, Chenyoulan, and Qingshui. At a
length of 186.4 kilometers, it is Taiwan’s longest river. A
torrent of black water pours down from 3,000 meters above
sea level, bringing with it a large amount of sediment. It
cuts through Nantou, Chiayi, and Yunlin, finally irrigating
Changhua County. The high silt content includes a lot of
minerals, and so the rich black water
fertilizes the soil along the banks
of the Zhuoshui River, making the
sandy land of the vast riverbed the
best environment for paddy fields. - According to genre: Historical site
